Description
Municipality located in the YOU of the county. It is formed by the old municipalities of Apatamonasterio, Arrazola and Axpe, after their coalition in 1962. It is in a strongly uneven area, being distinguished the mountainous alignment of address clearly YOU-NW that travels the whole center and south of the term. The culminations, above those 1.000 m., they finish in Anboto (1.296 m.) and Aitlluiz (1.068 m.), this already in Abadiño. More to the north it highlights the mount Menaya (680 m.). RÃos Chareta, flowing of Ibaizabal, and Azunza, flowing of Urkiola. The mountainous character of the area explains that a small percentage of the total surface can only be worked.

Description
the history of Derio went even to that of the Dominion of Biscay, with its wars and periods of prosperity. Their inhabitants were devoted almost exclusively to the field, cultivating wheat, potatoes and corn as well as small exploitations of bovine livestock. It possessed three mills and an ironworks (at the present time they stay two mills, one of them still in operation).
The influence of the next and growing village of Bilbao was guiding the sale of the agricultural products and cattlemen toward this. In the XIX century the communication roads were developed that until then he/she was carried out through roads and wearing shoes, and in 1894 the railroad was inaugurated that Bilbao would unite with Lezama. In 1.901 were built the cemetery of Bilbao in lands of Zamudio and Derio with the onlooker name of Cemetery of Cheerful View, being good the recent railroad for the peculiar transport of caskets and of products of the vegetable garden.

Located N. of the county. Their capital the anteiglesia of the same name is in the part YOU. of the municipal term, in a plain beside the Cantabrian sea. The relief in general is not very mountainous not surpassing heights of 308 m. (Atxurkulu).

Its altitude on the sea level is of 96 meters and it occupies a surface from 31,03 Km² to the long and wide of the river Cadagua. The geology of its lands conforms a relief by way of pale, due to a series of mountainous alignments notably erosionadas as much for the north as for the south. Therefore, we meet with an extensive plain to both sides of the river Cadagua, surrounded of mounts.

There are two relief types, on one hand the solid one calcareous that has as examples the summits of Aitz (1.068 m.), Aitz-txiki (732 m.) and Untzillaitz (941 m.) more to the South they are the summits of Saibigain (932 m.) and Urita (794 m.).The area located to the North, corresponding to the Valley of Ibaizábal, is structurally an area of marly, softer materials that you/they have given origin to the valley of the same name, very important in the communications and expansion throughout Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.

However, since the juridical limits are a very recent creation, we won't be able to detach our poor person it indexes of the general context of their environment: Encartaciones, since the prehistoric groups occupied and they exploited an extensive and not well defined area territorially where they developed their cynegetic activities and of shepherding.
This way one can say that the man's History in Vulture and Ciérvana denominated EneolÃtico-brass begins in the period. For then the man that inhabited Basque country transforms into producer. Next to the traditional activities to obtain foods like the hunt and the gathering arises the domestication of animals...........
