It is part of the county of Salamanca of whose capital dista 50 kilometers. Those 71.15 square kilometers of their municipal term, they have form of language of flat earth, adjacent with Zamora's counties, Valladolid and Ávila (altitude 781 m). Bañobárez keeps remains of an old occupation of the territory. The necropolis tardorromana, corresponding to the Hispanic-Visigothic (centuries V-VII) time, is located in the payment of Tarihuela, in the Meadow of Medinilla.
Several sepulchers, worked in the granite, with trapezoidal form and fit for the head, they are the most common, although we also find some double burials, taking advantage of blocks of granite of more size.

bigger part of blended earth with some cobble and brick, of a single floor, and some with well, although interrupted by corralizas, they form the body of the town; their streets with a little
paved and dirty in humid time, and a small square that contains the house of the town council, built in Carlos' reign IV, with the jail and the school; school endowed with the funds of characteristic with 1.100 real. At the distance of a league fourth, he/she is the Christ's small hermitage. The term measures 5.000 huebras; the works are made with 236 oxen
and the arriería occupies 110 asses" This is what Madoz of Alaraz says, among other more things, in its Dictionary (1845/50).
