The first reference white that we find is the relationship of populations that you/they should contribute to the monastery of San Millán of Cogolla, collection in the called document the Grill of San Millán, of the year 1025. Except for Quilchano, they figure the five of the six towns existent today and uninhabited two of the three. They are mentioned this way;
.- Arguimaniz (Argómaniz) that contributes with three grills (a grill was the contribution that corresponded to 10 tributary houses, what supposes him/her a higher population that most of the villages of Llanada).
.- Aniu (Añua) that contributes with a grill.
.- Arbuslu (Arbulo) that contributes with two annual grills.
.- Burgello (Elburgo) that contributes with two grills, together with Garaona.
.- It also figures a town with the name of Gazaeta (Gáceta) that contributes with a grill, although we can think that it is also about another village called Gáceta, then uninhabited, located among Armentia, Gometxa and Eskibel.
.- Iscona (Hijona) that contributes with three grills.
.- And that that then would be deforested, as Hararihini (Arrarain). a grill - and Garonna (Garona) that pays two grills together with Elburgo............

The origin of the name of Elciego gets lost in the legend. And the legends, experts in their fair value, are part of the history.
A legend relates the origin of Elciego with the adjournment of an old population with establishment that is pointed out in the vicinities of San Vicente's hermitage, at scarce distance of Ebro. The place was denominated San Andrés of the Riverside.
The first testimony written on Elciego finds it in the year 1067, in Cartulario of San Millán of Cogolla. It is about a document in form of records of testament of Aznar Díaz of Zieko, edited in Latin of the time with a deeply Christian spirit. Translated, it would be in the following way:
"In our Christ's Redeemer name.Me, Mr. Aznar Díaz of Zieko, moved by the love to God and impelled by the memory of my sins, I prepare freely, to donate, for the glory of God something of that that The so abundantly has given me. For that reason I grant and I give in the confessor's of God honor San Emiliano............

Description
their name collapses in the darkness without sending any sign, resigned to its destination. Quickly the first fond of the etymologies related their name with erbi "hare", similar to scarce although not unknown names as Erbisoroeta (Iratxe 1283). Of another part the possibility of an origin has been suggested between (h) er (ri) "town" and (similar to names as Ergoiena) bi "two" or bidet "road" or ibi "ford, step in a river."
But their documented old forms force us, such and like he/she made the town, to look for roads toward the clean heights. Indeed, he/she appears as Ervico (804 and 864), Erbico (864) or even Erbice (864). Their name appears endowed with some terminations characteristic of the romance or Latin.
