Description
PedanÃa located to about 5 kms to the West of the capital of MURCIA, in the central sector of the vegetable garden, in the right margin of the Sure river. It occupies an approximate surface of 1,475 km2 and it limits to the North with the pedanÃas of Old Javalà and Ñora, to the This with the pedanÃa of The Line, to the West with the municipal term of Sewer, and, to the South, with the also pedanÃa of Nonduermas. It has 1900 inhabitants approximately. Puebla of Soto was founded on the previous dominion of Santarén whose existence can go back at the end of the XIII century with reason of the Distribution of lands carried out by Alfonso X.
The denomination is applied as much to the dominion as to the canal that reflects for its lands, being derived, according to Robert Pocklington, of Santa Irene, origin of the name of the Portuguese city of Santarem, in Arab SantarÃn. In front of this thesis, the historian Juan Torres Fontes sustains that it was about different dominions that will become unified prior to the first years of the XVI century.
