Description
The archaeological excavations have shown that the existence of human life in the term of Herrera of Pisuerga goes back at the prehistoric times, because the archaeological oldest remains found in Herrera's location are material of attributable stone to the paleolithic one.
Bigger number of materials is providing the Roman location. The permanency during about 60 years (of the 20 to. C. to 40 d. C., approximately) in the lot of Herrera of Legio IIII Macedonian supposed the presence of some 10.000 people. It seems probable that Herrera's toponym comes of the sintagma Latin "terram ferrariam" or earth ferrera or maybe of "ferri-area" = iron area, ferruginous place. This toponym is very abundant in Spain, in short in 29 counties and in all of Castile and León, I Save in Segovia and Zamora. In the documentation of the XI century it was denominated to the place "Ferrera."
