Barren Church of Santa MarÃa cantabria town.It was built among the XII and XIII centuries on an old monastery been founded by the bishops Ariulfo and Severino in the year 853 in an uninhabited (of there Wilderness) place. Of the old monastery anything is no longer conserved, there being desapa - recido when getting up the current church in the XIII century.
It was therefore, I center of a primitive dominion of abbatial with important possessions for the area of the first floor Besaya that would go losing influence with the time. Nowadays it is one of the igle - more interesting sias of the mountain románico.
