In origin it was a high one it escarps fortified that it served as surveillance the barren fields of surroundings that they constituted part of Castilian Extremadura. There were other points in same height that you/they also served as surveillance: Zamora, Bull (Zamora) and Simancas (Valladolid). In the century IX, the son bigger than Alfonso III called GarcÃa the work of repopulation of these lands continued from León through Earth of Campos and Mounts Torozos. It occupied Otero that later would be Tordesillas and from there it directed and it centralized the repopulation with Mozarabic and with people arrived from Asturias and León. This way it can be said that the birth of Tordesillas is of origin asturleonés.With the arrival of Almanzor for these lands had a great setback and depopulation until later, in the XI century a slow recovery begins to the Castilian count's front Sancho GarcÃa. The documents of this time name her as Oterdesillas. In the XII century it belongs to the bishopric of Palencia whose bishops had palaces inside the walls of this strong square. The cathedral of Valladolid was designed by Juan of Herrera, architect of Escorial. The history of the cathedral vallisoletana intersects with the development of the city, until the point that this it conditioned its construction strongly. Their history is the succession of projects and frustrations in the one that the ambition treatment of being superimposed unsuccessfully to the reality.Which was the final result?A cathedral to mean to build (a grandiose project not achieved) and a colegiata that aspired to more than what ended up being.Origin of the current cathedral.Born in the time of the repopulation under medieval when Alfonso VI of Castile grant the dominion from Castile to the count Ansúrez. The first Mister of the village he/she decided to dedicate a church to Santa MarÃa, religious head of their feud. For their construction he/she relied on the reformed order of Cluniacenses. In the year 1100 the count Ansúrez made donation from the colegiata to its first Abbot. It was already built a building of style románico. It should be insufficient, for that reason the second colegiata was built that supposed the destruction of first o'clock, except for its tower (in fact this is not tasted like certain science). The Town council wanting to be compared with that of Salamanca or Segovia decided to build another even more grandiose colegiata, but they didn't measure its forces. The project ran in charge of noted architects as Gil of Hontañón or Diego of Riaño. The reasons are not known by those that it was unconcluded the project. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catedral ...
