The first human presence in the territory of what is nowadays Cáceres goes back to the Prehistory. In the area of Calerizo several caves exist, as Santa Ana's Cave that possesses the human oldest presence in Extremadura, around 1 million years of antiquity, the Cave of The Warren and Maltravieso (discovered in 1956 by the academic and official columnist from Cáceres Carlos Callejo) where they have been pictorial vestiges of human hands, with the particularity that they have the hidden little finger under a layer of painting (in the past it was thought that it was about amputations). The datación of these paintings understands several stages of the Paleolithic Superior. In the near cave of The Warren they have been some ceramic and lithic utensils that date the occupation of the cave in the Neolithic one Old (VI-V millennium a.C.), neither it is necessary to discard the possibility that it was busy during Epipaleolítico. Later on some trepaned skulls and decorated ceramics point to that the cave of Maltravieso was also busy during the Age of the Brass.

The city of Cáceres was declared in 1986 Patrimony of the Humanity by Unesco, since one of the urban groups of the Half Age possesses and of the most complete Rebirth in the world. Santa María's Concatedral, Palacio of the Vanes (Archaeological Museum), the palaces of Golfines (of Up and Below), the House of the Sun, the Tower of Bujaco or the Star's Arch are the most beautiful and admirable monuments. Also, it highlights to be the headquarters of one of the four campus with which it counts the University of Extremadura and for their cultural dynamic life in the group of the autonomous community. It aspires to be Capital European of the Culture in the year 2016.

Arab Domain
They were the Muslims, coming from the north of África, those that took advantage of the strategic place on which settled the Roman primitive colony as military base to make in front of the Christian Kingdom of the north, during the first centuries of the Reconquest. Of Arabic the current name comes of Via of the Silver, denomination of the Roman roadway that Astorga united with Andalusia (of the Arab balata, roadway, of where it derived - for corruption - the word "silver").
