At the beginning of the XX century, the architect Antoni GaudĂ­ would direct a series of works dedicated to recover part of the original space. The produced main changes were: the elimination of the choir located in the center of the ship that was divided in two and transferred to the lateral ones, placing it on sendos groups of columns; the elaboration of a baldachin for the biggest altar; (unfinished project, since the present baldachin is a scale model of the definitive one that should have been carried out in metal) the creation of a new pulpit (located to the left of the biggest altar) and the introduction of different ornamental elements of design modernist (the closing of the biggest altar and the calls "tobilleras" or chandeliers placed in the pillars that sustain the central ship)
