MarÃn is a municipality in the county of Pontevedra, in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, Spain, located in the southern bank of the Creek of Pontevedra, in the district of Morrazo.It has a population of 26.103 inhabitants (INE 2005).The municipality belongs to the Diocese of Santiago of Compostela, and it is divided in seven parishes: Ardán (employer: Sacred MarÃa), OR Field (employer: Sacred MarÃa), MarÃn (employer: Sacred MarÃa of the Port), Mogor (pattern: San Jorge), San Julián (pattern: San Julián), San I Took of Piñeiro (pattern: San I Took) and Seixo (employer: Our Mrs. of Carmen).It houses a Naval Military School, only in Spain, transferred from San Fernando (Cádiz) in 1943. The King from Spain, or in their defect the Prince of Asturias, they visit the School Carmen's (July 16) Day to preside over the act of Jura of Flag and Delivery of Offices.Their beaches receive every year visitors' thousands, being the tourist main attractiveness of the municipality. The main sandbanks are Portocelo, Mogor, be Flooded, Loire, OR Saint and Lapamán. In the year 2004 two of them, be Flooded and Portocelo, has Blue Flag.The petroglifos located to the feet of the beach of Mogor dates of the year 300 adC and they are related with the Celtic ones.
