Zalamea of the Serene one is a Spanish town of the county of Badajoz, in the autonomous community of Extremadura.He/she has a population of 4.431 inhabitants (at January 1 of 2003) and an extension of 245,70 km². It is located to an altitude of 483 meters on the sea level. Their coordinates are latitude: 38° 40' North; longitude: 5° 38' West.Not it is possible to specify with accuracy this population's antiquity, although archaeological remains as the near location of Cancho Roano, shows the poblamiento presence in prehistoric time. Better it is their existence in Roman time, when it was denominated Iulipa, reaching the grade of Roman municipality. Of this time it dates their more characteristic monument: sepulchral Dystilo, built in the year 103, during the emperor's government Trajano.
