Giralda, the symbol more emblemático of Seville beyond its frontiers, is the old minaret of the great mosque of 17 ships, bigger than that of Córdoba, with five domes before the mihrab, on the one that today the Cathedral runs off with. Their construction was ordered in 1171 by Abu Yacub Yusuf of Morocco, head of the invasion almohade, and carried out by its son, the emir Abu Yusuf Yacub al-Mansur. The tower was concluded in 1198.
