According to the article third of the Statute of Autonomy of Rioja, Organic Law 3/1982: "The flag of Rioja is the one formed by four horizontal fringes and of same size, of the red, white, green and yellow colors." According to the article seventh of the Law 4/1985, of May (BOLR nº 64, of June 4) 31: "The shield of Rioja will be able to figure in the center of the flag." The significance of its colors usually attributes to the color of the wine (red), of the snow (white), of the grasslands (green) and the wheat (yellow).
