Najera, the Real Pantheon

Inside the vault the remains of twelve real characters rest, all belonging to the Kingdom of Nájera - Pamplona, except Bermudo III of León. It is about a sculptural work of the XVI century, Renaissance in their entirety, with some plateresque details. It is, therefore, quite later to the time in that the kings lived whose remains were transferred later to these sepulchres.
In the center, to both sides of the entrance the sepulchers of the kings founders, Don GarcÃa and their wife are Doña EstefanÃa of Foie. To right and left of both are placed, among other, the sepulchers of Sancho IV the Nobleman or of Peñalén, Sancho Garcés II Sandal, their wife Doña Magpie (daughter of the Count Fernán González), Doña white of Navarrese, Bermudo III of León and sancho the sage. Continuing toward the bottom of the cave, they are, to right and left, other five sepulchers. |
