The building where the Parliament from Rioja, old Convent of Merced is it dates of the XIV century, although it suffered important reformations during the XVI century. Its Baroque facade that dates highlights of 1685.Durante the XIX century it is used as barracks, military hospital, store, prison... until in 1889 a Factory of Tobaccos settles down in her, being carried out important reformations.
In 1978 it returns to municipal hands. After the creation of the Statute of Autonomy, the building is restored in 1988, and the cloister of the convent transforms into the Parliament's hemiciclo. The rest of the old convent has been reutilizado like room of exhibitions (Amós Salvador salts) and I eat Municipal Library.
