The Bay of Santoña is located in the municipality of the same name in Cantabria. This bay constitutes one of the most important estuaries in the region, originated when being invaded by the sea in the low course of the river Asón.The width of the bay (28 square kilometers), like in the cases of San Vicente of Barquera and Santander, it is bound to the existence of a sustrato easily erosionable, constituted by loamy and saline materials of Triásico. The bay is almost closed for a great arrow coast, the prop of I Saved Her that grows from Laredo and Colindres toward Santoña, in address South-north, grace to the sandy contributions and dynamics of the marine currents.
