The Sacred Family, Barcelona

The Sacred Family is a great church in Barcelona, designed by the Catalan architect Antoni GaudÃ, still in construction. Their complete name is Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Family (in Catalan, Temper Expiatori of the Sacred FamÃlia). The Sacred Family is the work teacher of GaudÃ, the maximum exponent of the modernist Catalan architecture.In 1883, when Gaudà was 31 years old, he/she received the responsibility from continuing the recently initiate works of the temple of the Sacred Family, after the abandonment of Francesc of Paula of Villar, as a consequence of the disagreements of this with the association fundacional of the temple. When being made I load Gaudà of the project, it modified it entirely (except for the part already built of the crypt) printing him/her their peculiar style. During the remaining 43 years of their life he/she worked intensely in the work, the last 15 years in an exclusive way. This so intense dedication has its explanation, besides the magnitude of the work, for the fact that Gaudà defined many aspects as the construction advanced, instead of having summed up them previously in its plans and instructions. Hence its personal presence in the work was of great importance.
