In origin it was a high one it escarps fortified that it served as surveillance the barren fields of surroundings that they constituted part of Castilian Extremadura. There were other points in same height that you/they also served as surveillance: Zamora, Bull (Zamora) and Simancas (Valladolid).In the century IX, the son bigger than Alfonso III called García the work of repopulation of these lands continued from León through Earth of Campos and Mounts Torozos. It occupied Otero that later would be Tordesillas and from there it directed and it centralized the repopulation with Mozarabic and with people arrived from Asturias and León. This way it can be said that the birth of Tordesillas is of origin asturleonés.With the arrival of Almanzor for these lands had a great setback and depopulation until later, in the XI century a slow recovery begins to the Castilian count's front Sancho García. The documents of this time name her as Oterdesillas. In the XII century it belongs to the bishopric of Palencia whose bishops had palaces inside the walls of this strong square.
