In the XV century the family EnrÃquez, Admirals from Castile, exercised the dominion of Simancas. They reconstructed the Arab old strength and of this time it is the chapel. Soon after, Reyes Catholics claimed it for the crown and they transformed it into prison of State. Here prisoner was and it was executed with vile garrote Zamora's bishop, don Antonio Coins, captain comunero from Castile. The execution was ordered by the mayor Ronquillo in 1521, in one of the cubes of the castle, called now, Toast of the Bishop. This character participated active in the battle of Villalar. The three comuneros (Padilla, Brave and Maldonado) was executed the following day of the battle, but he was locked in the tower of the castle giving him/her the opportunity to be sorry. He/she was not sorry but rather it strangled the governor of the strength and when being about escaping it was captured again; the mayor Ronquillo ordered its death.Felipe II transformed the castle in General File of the Kingdom housing one of the most important files in Europe with 35 million documents. The reformations that were made gave place to the aspect that has at the present time. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simancas |
