Teruel was populated from the times of the Iberian; there are remains in the location of High Chacón; the area was occupied by the Romans being near populations as the remains Roman spirits in Cella. Toward the 714 it was occupied by Arab Tarik, being bound the territory to near Alhambra, current Alfambra, and that later it belonged to the Kingdom Taifa of Albarracín; their inhabitants intervened in the conquest from Valencia to the Muslims, and in Guerra of Pedros against Castile, being granted him the title of City in 1347 for Pedro IV of Aragon, thanks to their collaboration in the wars of the Union. The name comes from the conjunction of the Aragonese words Tor (Bull) and Uel (it Shatters). According to a legend, the king's hosts Alfonso II of Aragon arrived to the place where today he/she is the city after following a brave bull on which a star moved to the same speed. Once there they took a Muslim strength, around which would grow Teruel later.
